The second chapter of Poppy Playtime has just been released, and certain evidence has led to speculation that Stella is the character Kissy Missy.
The second episode of Poppy Playtime was recently released, sparking even more speculation about what is going on inside Playtime Co. Even though the game does a good job at dropping hints about the game’s lore, a lot of it is left to fan speculation. Because of Chapter 2, there has been a lot of conjecture that Stella is the monster Kissy Missy.
Stella is a minor character in Poppy Playtime who has a distinct look. So far, she has only made one appearance in the game, when the player can uncover a tape in Poppy Playtime and listen to her being interviewed for a job at Playtime Co. Stella reminisces to her interviewer about her childhood love of playing with toys, which gives her the impression of being a nice woman.
Due to her fondness of being a child and playing with toys, it was first assumed that Stella was Poppy. However, following the release of Chapter 2, rumours have begun to circulate that Stella is actually Kissy Missy. This theory is supported by a few of indications found in Chapter 2.
Why Stella Might Actually Be Kissy Missy – Poppy Playtime Ch. 2
When the player enters the chamber with the Game Train in Chapter 2, the strongest evidence of Stella being Kissy Missy may be found. There is a cardboard cutout of Kissy Missy in Poppy Playtime in a conductor’s costume on the platform next to the train with a big red button that will play audio when pressed by the player. When the player presses the button, the cutout begins speaking in Stella’s voice instead of an unknown female voice. The voice lines are basic, such as counting down the train’s departure time, but the fact remains that Stella’s voice was utilised instead of another, which appears to be a deliberate choice by the producers.
Another minor clue could be when the player encounters Kissy Missy. The player is locked behind a gate, with the opening lever on the other side. Kissy Missy appears from down the corridor, but unlike the other monsters in Poppy Playtime Chapter 2, she is interested, docile, and nice, and just opens the gate for the player before vanishing. Stella comes out as a really nice, curious, and quirky lady during her interview on the audio from Chapter 1 and this could be a little indication.
While nothing is proven, Chapter 2 gives us a lot of information about who these characters are. There’s also a suggestion in Chapter 2 that Elliot Ludwig, the owner of Playtime Co., lost his daughter, which suggests that Poppy may be his reincarnation, disproving the “Stella is Poppy” theory. However, all of this is supposition, and gamers will have to wait until Poppy Playtime Chapter 3 is released to learn more about the game’s lore and characters.
