Deadpool 3 is still in the works, according to reports. Don’t be concerned!
Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin, who wrote Bob’s Burgers, were hired to create the threequel in November 2020. Although the film is still under development, Ryan Reynolds stated in August 2021 that filming would begin in 2022.
In August 2021, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige stated that the studio had a Deadpool 3 release date in mind, but he wouldn’t go so far as to say when it may happen.
We’re four months into 2022 and no evidence of Deadpool 3 filming – but we do have one major update (but more on that later).
We’re still waiting for another major update on the film, but we can rest certain that it’s happening and that we’ll see it eventually.
Here’s all you need to know about Deadpool 3 while we wait for that day.
Deadpool 3 release date speculation: When will Deadpool 3 be released?
Although Marvel Studios has confirmed Deadpool 3, no official release date has been set.
As previously stated, long-time Bob’s Burgers writers Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin have been hired to pen the third instalment.
Reynolds will also rejoin with Shawn Levy, the director of Free Guy and The Adam Project, on the threequel, as Levy will be directing.
Even while there are now writers and a director on board, the third film is still in the early stages of development, so we won’t be seeing it anytime soon.
Reynolds hinted that production could begin in 2022, but he also said in October 2021 that he was taking a hiatus from acting.
It’s possible that we’ll see it in 2023, depending on whether filming begins in 2022. Although Marvel has three films confirmed for that year (The Marvels, Guardians 3, and Ant-Man 3), one date remains open: November 3.
However, it is more likely that we will have to wait until 2024. We should have a clearer notion of when the Merc with a Mouth will return once a more exact filming start date is determined.
Deadpool 3 cast: Who will appear in the sequel?
If there’s one thing you can count on in life, it’s that Ryan Reynolds will return as Wade Wilson in Deadpool 3. We’ll have to wait and see who else joins Reynolds because no one else has confirmed their involvement yet.
Because he’s allegedly on the poster, Marvel fans have speculated that we might see him reprise his role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. We’ll have to wait until May 2022 to find out if it happens.
Reynolds has made his MCU debut in an advertisement as Korg from Thor: Ragnarok, and he has refuted the Doctor Strange 2 speculations, although he would do that.
With the X-Force squad, Deadpool 2 introduced us to a variety of new heroes, and while some didn’t survive long enough, we could see characters like Cable (Josh Brolin) and Domino (Zazie Beetz) again.
However, Beetz isn’t so confident she’ll return, since she claimed in March 2021 that she hadn’t heard anything about a job, and she still hasn’t heard anything as of March 2022 (a full year later).
If we see the X-Force squad again, we can expect Colossus (Stefan Kapii), Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), Yukio (Shioli Kutsuna), and Russell (Julian Dennison) to join them, possibly with Peter (Rob Delaney) in tow.
Fans shouldn’t expect to see characters like Shatterstar (Lewis Tan) and Zeitgeist (Bill Skarsgrd) return in Deadpool 3, but superheroes in the books are notorious for cheating death, so never say never.
Thanks to a tweet from Reynolds and Leslie Uggams, who plays Blind Al’s roommate, we can pretty reasonably assume he’ll be back.
Vanessa, Deadpool’s girlfriend, has already escaped death (as long as the post-credits sequence in Deadpool 2 is canon), and it’s safe to presume she’ll return for the sequel as well – though Morena Baccarin hasn’t confirmed anything yet.
Vanessa’s lack of screen time in the sequel was previously defended by her, with fans accusing the film of ‘fridging’ her. “I understand why people felt that way, and I was upset that I didn’t have more to do with the part because I adored it,” she remarked.
“However, after seeing the film and reading the script, it felt like such an emotionally essential role in the picture, and what happens to my character sets in motion the entire arc of his character in the film.”
However, the Merc with a Mouth may have his hands full protecting her, as past Easter eggs have revealed that Mr Sinister could be the main antagonist in Deadpool 3.
If that fails, Deadpool 2’s chopped cameo from Omega Red during the Ice Box Prison scene could also hint at the franchise’s future.
TJ Miller, who portrayed Weasel in the first two films, has stated that he’d “rather they didn’t” produce a third, so we won’t be too disappointed if he doesn’t return.
Will Ryan Reynolds and his enemy Hugh Jackman finally make an on-screen reunion? We literally have no idea.
